Case Management

The Case Management Team at the CWC is a resource for students seeking support while connecting with resources both on and off campus. Case managers work with students to connect them to a therapist for ongoing counseling, help navigate health insurance coverage and find resources to help make counseling affordable. Case managers also provide support around concerns regarding food security, homelessness/housing security, emergency situations, and navigating multiple relationships or resources on campus. Sometimes a student feels their case management needs have been met with just one meeting. Other times, case management can be a source of support over multiple meetings while students navigate the concerns listed above.

Appointments with a case manager are facilitated by our Consultation and Referral Team (CART). CART members will typically refer a student to case management after a brief consultation if they identify mental health needs or other concerns that will better served by a resource outside of the CWC’s scope of care. If you know that you are interested in connecting with a mental health resource in the community and are not sure how to get started, scheduling a brief consultation with the CWC is a great first step.

Your information from CART will be passed along and a member of the Case Management Team will contact you by phone and/or email to schedule an appointment. Depending on the nature of your needs, the case manager may ask you to bring your insurance card or other information to help identify resources more efficiently.

There is no charge for case management consultations. Case management, like CWC’s other services, is supported by UF’s Health Fee.

Case managers may assist with problem solving and skill-building in the context of your meeting, but their role is different from that of a therapist. Their primary role is to help you connect with the resources and support you need within UF and the wider community.

Case management at the CWC is a confidential service. Though consultations with case managers are not therapy sessions, they are protected by the same ethical and legal standards. Learn more about confidentiality at the CWC.

No; case management maintains a database of local providers who have indicated interest in working with UF students. Our Community Provider Database is searchable by specialty area, counselor characteristics, and insurance.
