Professional Interests
Dr. Kim’s areas of clinical and professional interests include concerns related to emotion regulation, trauma, loss, crisis, identity development, multicultural issues, suicide prevention, working with underserved populations such as international students, and clinical supervision and mentoring.
Approach to Therapy
Dr. Kim’s approach to therapy is best described as integrative; she is grounded in humanistic principles and values the integration of various approaches from cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, acceptance- and mindfulness-based, multicultural, and interpersonal orientations.
Approach to Supervision
Dr. Kim values developmental, dialectical, and multicultural perspectives in supervision. She strives to meet her supervisees' individual needs, by identifying both strengths and growth edges. She believes that all clinicians have something to offer as well as something to learn, and ever continue growing and maturing with experiences, inputs, and self-supervision. She focuses on balancing support, guidance, and challenge, with a goal of integrating a sense of trust and self-value, openness to new perspectives, and respect for differences.
Approach to Wellness
Dr. Kim enjoys spending free time doing nothing. She also loves cooking, reading for fun, playing with her cat, watching TV, traveling, and being in nature.
