Professional Interests
Her professional interests include trauma, anxiety, perfectionism, impostor phenomenon, stress including race - related stress, academic related concerns (e.g., time management), career exploration and planning. Regarding populations, she has an interest in working with clients from marginalized communities and with student veterans.
Approach to Therapy
Her theoretical orientation is an integration of cognitive – behavioral and systems theory with a multicultural lens. In sessions, she explores the client’s thinking and behavioral patterns that are contributing to their distress levels while also aiming to understand how the client learned these thinking and behavioral patterns. The integration of these approaches provides the flexibility to explore thoughts, behaviors, and acknowledge that the client’s feelings are shaped by their experiences of oppression and privilege within their respective systems.
Approach to Supervision
She approaches supervision from a developmental approach that is trainee focused. She aims to establish a healthy supervisory relationship and cultivate a supervision space where trainees feel comfortable engaging in self – reflection. She also uses a strengths-based perspective and collaborates with the trainee to explore goals, areas of growth, and salient cultural factors that are present in the supervision and therapeutic space.
Approach to Wellness
She believes wellness is about actively pursuing activities (or practices) that will prevent a disruption in the individual’s natural state of calm. Consistent and intentional assessment is needed to determine if certain activities or practices are a good fit for the demands that may be present in the person’s life during that particular season. The end goal of wellness-oriented practices is to feel whole, restored, and to make progress towards being the best version of oneself.
Other Activities
In her spare time, she enjoys exploring walking trails, cooking new recipes, vicariously living through the HGTV designers, spending time with family and friends, and reading novels.
