Education

Dr. Zhou earned her BA in Psychology from UC Davis in 2012, MA in Psychology from San Diego State in 2014, and PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in 2020.

Professional Interests

Dr. Zhou’s professional interests include trauma recovery, identity exploration, mindfulness, multicultural counseling, vocational and career assessment, and psychological assessment. She has worked with clients experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, insomnia, chronic pain, adjustment, and vocation concerns. She has interest in research, particularly around mental health stigma, promoting equity in mental health-care delivery, and reducing barriers to mental health treatment seeking and engagement.

Approach to Therapy

Dr. Zhou takes a person-centered and integrative approach to therapy that builds upon and is grounded in psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and multicultural theories.

Approach to Supervision

Dr. Zhou takes a developmental approach to supervision. She believes in the importance of working collaboratively with trainees to identify their current stage of development and working with them to build a training experience that is appropriate to that stage but still facilitates progression to subsequent stages.

Approach to Wellness

Dr. Zhou believes in the benefits of self-care and maintaining work-life balance. She seeks to achieve this by spending time with friends and family as well as engaging in enjoyable activities such as exploring new places, eating good food, biking, and reading.

Dr. Zhou is an assistant professor in the Counseling Psychology program at the University of Florida.
