Professional Interests
My areas of interest include mindfulness in everyday life, managing strong emotions, personal and family individuation, developing effective and meaningful relationships, increasing emotional resiliency, and changing maladaptive habits and addictions. Most recently, I have developed a strong interest and concern in the role that social, news, and entertainment media negatively impacts overall functioning and quality of life for college students.
Approach to Therapy
My approach to therapy is integrative, drawing from positive and contemplative psychology, cognitive-behavioral frameworks, and interpersonal dynamic theory. In my experience, being client centered, compassionate, and authentic creates the most helpful conditions for meaningful change.
Approach to Supervision
My approach to supervision is developmental and humanistic. I emphasize the importance of trainees being prepared, curious, aware, and empathic in order to build a therapeutic alliance with their clients. Developing a larger window of tolerance for emotional discomfort and uncertainty is an ongoing process, as is growing our capacity for patience and self-compassion. These are processes that benefit all therapists, new and seasoned alike, and sharing in them is an important part of supervision.
Approach to Wellness
I believe that mind, body, and spirit are equally important to nurture in our pursuit of wellness. I find that increasing my experiences in nature as well as connecting with people, plants, and pets are especially beneficial.
Other Activities
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends in the pursuit of travel, good food, outdoor adventures, pickleball, and light day hiking. As an avid student of Mindfulness, I regularly attend related trainings and events. In between, I enjoy daily walking, doing a bit of yard work, streaming a good series, and spoiling our family cats!
