Professional Interests
Dr. Brown is a generalist who loves helping students with nearly any concerns related to stress, anxiety (including panic and OCD), mood, relationships, health, lifestyle changes, and life transitions. She is interested in positive psychology and mindfulness applications.
Approach to Therapy
Her approach is integrative, drawing from supportive, insight-oriented, and skills- and strength-based models. She focuses on mind-body-spirit. Dr. Brown enjoys assisting with the development of practical skills for self- and life-management, and has a strong background in CBT and DBT. Whenever possible, she incorporates mindfulness or other forms of meditation and positive psychology interventions into her work.
Approach to Supervision
Dr. Brown’s approach to supervision is developmental and collaborative, with respect for the trainee’s level of experience and need. She also finds it important to assist trainees with the “nuts and bolts” of treatment interventions, and encourages supervisees to practice skills and techniques themselves to facilitate both the teaching of these to the client and an appreciation of the client’s experience in therapy.
Approach to Wellness
The practice of mindfulness and gratitude are meaningful components of everyday wellness. Dr. Brown loves swimming, being in nature, exploring Gainesville and Florida, attending Gator sporting events, and spending time with her family.
Other Activities
Dr. Brown is currently the President of the North Florida Chapter of the Florida Psychological Association.
