Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the treatment of mental, emotional or behavioral conditions. Services offered by Student Health Care Center Psychiatry at the Counseling and Wellness Center (SHP) include psychiatric evaluations, comprehensive treatment planning, coordination of care with other professionals and medication management.
Collaborative Care Model
Integration of psychiatry, therapy, and general medical services has been shown to improve patient outcomes, control costs and reduce stigma related to mental health. SHP attempts to optimize integration of care. The Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC) strives to integrate care by having psychiatry providers, therapists and primary care providers (PCPs) work closely together. The psychiatry providers and therapists see each other’s notes in our records system and in addition will consult with each other if needed. Psychiatry providers also routinely collaborate with PCPs.
