Now that we defined privilege, let’s see an illustration of privilege
It is important to be aware of our privileges and use our privileges to do our best to achieve great things, while advocating for those with less privilege! It is our human responsibility to…
- Seek to create spaces that are welcoming to all people, regardless of their social identities
- Ensure that underrepresented social identities and communities are provided access, equity, and inclusion in all programs and services
Did you notice how the only ones who complained about fairness were in the back of the room?
Students in the front of the room were less likely to be aware of the privilege they have simply based on seat arrangement. All they could see was what was between them and their goal.
As students who are receiving an education, it is important that you are aware of this privilege and use your education privilege to do your best, while advocating for those in the “rows behind you.”
