Professional Interests
Lisa Buning’s interests include group therapy, women’s issues, disordered eating/body image concerns, anxiety, family of origin exploration and understanding, and educating and empowering clients to make good choices regarding their mental health care.
Approach to Therapy
Having spent over ten years in the counseling field, Ms. Buning draws on a variety of approaches to helping clients. Ms. Buning uses insight oriented, solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal methods of counseling.
Approach to Supervision
Ms. Buning assists in learning and growth through a spirit of respectful curiosity, pointing out strengths and resources, and challenging trainees to take risks.
Approach to Wellness
Ms. Buning aims to not take herself too seriously. She believes laughter really is the best medicine. Ms. Buning has been a member of a book club for the past 9 years. Family is a priority. Playing with her two children, exercise, playing volleyball, and watching the Food Network are some of her favorite things to do.
Other Activities
Ms. Buning is collaborating with Dr. Carlos Hernandez on improving services offered by the CWC for student veterans.
