Dr. Lan’s clinical, research, and teaching interests include group therapy, psychodynamic therapy, Dialectical Behavior therapy, trauma recovery, emotional intelligence, mind-body connection, multicultural counseling, severe psychopathology, psychological assessment, and supervision and training of psychology as well as psychiatry trainees.
Approach to Therapy
Dr. Lan’s approach to therapy emphasizes finding the treatments that best match the clients’ needs. Her work is significantly influenced by psychodynamic, DBT, existential, and eastern philosophical perspectives.
Approach to Supervision
Dr. Lan’s approach to supervision reflects the influences from psychodynamic, dialectal, developmental, and multicultural perspectives. She adopts a supportive and collaborative style to encourage the supervisee’s exploration of self, facilitating her/his professional and personal growth. Supervision often involves examinations of transference, countertransference, and parallel process, as well as Socratic questioning, to assist in self-exploration.
Approach to Wellness
Dr. Lan enjoys visiting different places in the world and experiencing the different cultures; learning different languages; playing volleyball; watching TV; observing the nature; thinking; and simply being.
Dr. Lan is licensed as a psychologist in both Florida and California states.
