Professional Interests

Dr. Kim’s areas of clinical and professional interests include concerns related to emotion regulation, trauma, loss, crisis, identity development, multicultural issues, suicide prevention, working with underserved populations such as international students, and clinical supervision and mentoring.

Approach to Therapy

Dr. Kim’s approach to therapy is best described as integrative; she is grounded in humanistic principles and values the integration of various approaches from cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, acceptance- and mindfulness-based, multicultural, and interpersonal orientations.

Approach to Supervision

Dr. Kim values developmental, multicultural, and strength-based perspectives in supervision. She strives to meet her supervisees’ individual needs, build on their competence, and stay sensitive to the progress that they make. She also focuses on fostering a sense of trust and self-value, cultivating respect for differences, as well as balancing support, guidance, and challenge.

Approach to Wellness

Dr. Kim enjoys spending free time doing nothing. She also loves cooking, reading for fun, playing with her cat, watching TV, traveling, and being in nature.
