Erik Gooch, DO, Medical Director
Originally from Indiana, Dr. Gooch received his B.S. in Biology from the University of Southern Indiana. He attended Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OSU-COM) followed by a traditional rotating internship at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. He then came to the University of Florida (UF) for Psychiatry residency, served as chief resident and completed a Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His areas of specialty/interest are student mental health, psychopharmacology, forensic psychiatry and the role of spirituality in mental health.
Since joining faculty in November 2005, the majority of Dr. Gooch’s clinical work has been in the outpatient setting where he provides direct patient care and supervision of resident physicians. His primary clinical site is UF’s Counseling and Wellness Center, which serves one of the country’s largest student populations. He also is a consultant for UF’s Employee Assistance Program and provides weekend/holiday coverage for UFHealth’s adult inpatient psychiatric hospital.
As a member of UF’s Behavioral Consult Team (BCT), Dr. Gooch is involved in risk assessment of students and employee’s that may pose a threat to the University community.
