Kristen Shader’s interests include substance abuse counseling and how mindfulness, creativity, and self-awareness impact overall mental, physical, and spiritual health. Kristen specializes in individual counseling, group process, and an interactive teaching approach. She works to organize and maintain the Back on TRAC program and UF Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC), programs that focus specifically on substance abuse and recovery in the college population.
Approach to Therapy
Kristen’s approach to therapy is humanistic and developmental, with an influence of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt, and Psychodynamic approaches when working specifically with substance abuse and dependence.
Approach to Wellness
Kristen continually works towards balancing work, relationships, and self-care. She believes making time for activities that bring joy are fundamentally important to overall health. Kristen enjoys time spent outside biking, hiking, gardening, and traveling around the world. She believes in the importance of play, regardless of age, and enjoys reading, writing, singing, yoga, meditation, guitar playing, and painting in her free time. She specifically emphasizes the importance of awareness, communication, and acceptance of self and others as three major components of wellness.
