M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Iowa State University

Doctoral Candidate in Counseling Psychology from Iowa State University.

Professional Interests

Her professional interest include working with marginalized populations, trauma survivors, women's concerns, identity intersectionality and supervision. She also is interested in working with first generation students and is fluent in Spanish.

Approach to Therapy

Raquel's approach to therapy is grounded within a multicultural lens and humanistic approach. She fosters the belief that people are genuinely growth-oriented and experts of their own paths. Concurrently, highlights the importance of socio-cultural aspects on the ability to flourish and honor the client’s diversity and worldview. Clinically she draws from interpersonal and emotional focus approaches with the belief that they shape how we view our self and others, including how we experience therapy.

Raquel's approach to supervision is to create a safe and collaborative space in order to meet supervisees where they are at developmentally. In addition, she utilizes interpersonal process to continue to foster growth and awareness while empowering them in their path of finding their own theoretical voice.

Other Activities

Raquel is a member of APA Division 45 and 35. She is also a member of the National Latina/o Psychological Association, Latina Researchers Network and has also been active with various graduate student groups.
