Dr. Welsch’s chief therapeutic interest is in the field of mind-body-spirit medicine. She particularly enjoys working in the area of peak performance with athletes, biofeedback therapy for anxiety and medical issues, energy psychology for fears and phobias, and spirituality issues. She also has a keen interest in the human-animal bond, animal communication and traditional Chinese Medicine.
Approach to Therapy
Dr. Welsch’s theoretical orientation is multimodal and interpersonal. She fuses Coherence Therapy with ACT therapy, and is also trained in EMDR, hypnosis, thought field therapy and neurofeedback.
She is BCIA certified in general biofeedback and is a certified instructor in heart rate variability training (Heartmath Corporation).
Approach to Supervision
She is grateful for opportunities to supervise practicum students and interns and post-docs, and prefers a therapist centered approach.
Approach to Wellness
She is a certified Reiki Master and Qigong instructor, and enjoys practicing these skills to maintain her own wellness. She gets energized by spending as much time at the beach as is possible and being with her pet dogs, Harvey and Sigmund. Her daughter (who energizes and delights her more than anything) is a collegiate volleyball player, and most Fall weekends find Dr. Welsch and her husband, the other Dr. Welsch, at volleyball matches.
Dr. Welsch is currently training her Havanese pup, Sigmund F. Welsch, to become a certified therapy dog, after which he will become a pet partner with her in her therapy practice at the CWC. She also is the owner of Compassionate Tao Mobile Veterinary Hospice Services, which provides end of life care and in-home euthanasia for the Gainesville area pet owners.
